Measuring Illicit Trafficking and Community Security through Participatory SDG 16-based Indicators

The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development recognizes that children and young women and men are critical agents of change and specifically calls for the creation of spaces for young people to enhance their knowledge of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 16 and engage in meaningful dialogue on peace, security and civic participation.

In efforts to support attainment of the 2030 Agenda and contribute to “significantly reducing illicit arms flows” as called for in SDG 16.4, UNLIREC works with youth in Colombia and Peru to:

  • increase their capacity to monitor and implement SDG 16 on youth, peace, disarmament, and security through participatory indicators at the community level
  • raise awareness on the role of young people in promoting the SDGs
